Description
Tender and juicy turkey smoked to perfection with applewood chips
Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 whole turkey
- 0.25 cup brown sugar
- 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup applewood chips
- 0.25 cup olive oil
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat smoker to 225-250°F.
- Step 2: In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
- Step 3: Rub the spice mixture all over the turkey, making sure to get some under the skin as well.
- Step 4: Place the turkey in the smoker, close the lid, and smoke for 30 minutes.
- Step 5: Add applewood chips to the smoker and continue to smoke for an additional 4-5 hours, or until the turkey reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.
- Step 6: After 4 hours, brush the turkey with olive oil every 30 minutes to keep it moist.
- Step 7: Once the turkey is cooked, let it rest for 30 minutes before carving and serving.
