Description
Classic Italian-American casserole with ziti pasta, rich meat sauce, and melted mozzarella cheese
Ingredients
- Salt and pepper
- 2 cups marinara sauce
- 0.5 cups onion
- 0.5 cup parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 pound ziti pasta
- 3 cloves garlic
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 egg
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C)
- Step 2: Cook ziti pasta according to package instructions until al dente, then set aside
- Step 3: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat
- Step 4: Add chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes
- Step 5: Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute
- Step 6: Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking into small pieces as it cooks
- Step 7: Stir in marinara sauce and bring to a simmer
- Step 8: In a large bowl, combine cooked ziti pasta, meat sauce, and beaten egg
- Step 9: In a 9x13-inch baking dish, create a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom
- Step 10: Arrange half of the ziti pasta mixture on top of the sauce
- Step 11: Sprinkle with half of the mozzarella and parmesan cheese
- Step 12: Repeat the layers, starting with the meat sauce, then the remaining ziti pasta mixture, and finally the remaining cheese
- Step 13: Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes
- Step 14: Remove foil and continue baking for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly
