Description

Classic Italian-American casserole with ziti pasta, rich meat sauce, and melted mozzarella cheese

Ingredients

  • Salt and pepper
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 0.5 cups onion
  • 0.5 cup parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 pound ziti pasta
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C)
  2. Step 2: Cook ziti pasta according to package instructions until al dente, then set aside
  3. Step 3: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat
  4. Step 4: Add chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes
  5. Step 5: Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute
  6. Step 6: Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking into small pieces as it cooks
  7. Step 7: Stir in marinara sauce and bring to a simmer
  8. Step 8: In a large bowl, combine cooked ziti pasta, meat sauce, and beaten egg
  9. Step 9: In a 9x13-inch baking dish, create a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom
  10. Step 10: Arrange half of the ziti pasta mixture on top of the sauce
  11. Step 11: Sprinkle with half of the mozzarella and parmesan cheese
  12. Step 12: Repeat the layers, starting with the meat sauce, then the remaining ziti pasta mixture, and finally the remaining cheese
  13. Step 13: Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes
  14. Step 14: Remove foil and continue baking for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly
