Description
Classic German-inspired bratwurst simmered in a rich beer broth, served with caramelized onions and crusty bread.
Ingredients
- 1 large onion
- Salt and pepper
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 teaspoon ground mustard
- 4 Bratwurst sausages
- 4 hoagie rolls
- 1 cup beer
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon thyme
Instructions
- Step 1: In a large saucepan, cook sliced onions over medium heat until caramelized, stirring occasionally (about 20 minutes).
- Step 2: Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute, until fragrant.
- Step 3: Add beer, brown sugar, mustard, thyme, salt, and pepper to the saucepan. Stir to combine.
- Step 4: Add Bratwurst sausages to the beer broth and simmer for 10-12 minutes, or until cooked through.
- Step 5: Preheat broiler. Grill or broil Bratwurst for 2-3 minutes per side, until nicely browned.
- Step 6: Serve Bratwurst on hoagie rolls or crusty bread with caramelized onions and beer broth for dipping.
