Description

Classic comfort food featuring a savory Salisbury steak smothered in a rich brown gravy

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 0.25 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 0.5 medium onion
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 cups beef broth

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Step 2: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Mix well with your hands until just combined.
  3. Step 3: Divide the mixture into 4 equal parts and shape each part into a round patty.
  4. Step 4: Dredge the patties in flour, shaking off excess.
  5. Step 5: Heat butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the patties for 2-3 minutes per side, or until browned. Transfer the patties to a baking dish.
  6. Step 6: Reduce heat to medium and add a little more butter to the skillet if necessary. Sprinkle a small amount of flour to the skillet and whisk to combine with the butter and pan drippings. Cook for 1 minute, or until the mixture is lightly browned.
  7. Step 7: Gradually pour in beef broth, whisking constantly. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the gravy thickens.
  8. Step 8: Pour the gravy over the Salisbury steaks and bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the steaks are cooked to your desired level of doneness.
  9. Step 9: Serve hot and enjoy!
