Carolina-style Pulled Pork Sandwich

Description

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 0.25 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 0.25 cup water
  • 0.25 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 2 tablespoons smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 pounds pork shoulder
  • Coleslaw

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Preheat oven to 300°F (150°C)
  2. Step 2: In a small bowl, whisk together vinegar, water, brown sugar, smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper
  3. Step 3: Place the pork shoulder in a large Dutch oven or oven-safe pot, and pour the vinegar mixture over it
  4. Step 4: Cover the pot with a lid and transfer it to the preheated oven
  5. Step 5: Braise the pork for 6-8 hours, or until it is tender and easily shreds with a fork
  6. Step 6: Remove the pot from the oven and let it cool slightly
  7. Step 7: Using two forks, shred the pork into bite-sized pieces
  8. Step 8: Strain the cooking liquid and discard the excess
  9. Step 9: Add the strained cooking liquid back to the pot with the shredded pork, and toss to coat
  10. Step 10: Split the hamburger buns in half and toast until lightly browned
  11. Step 11: Assemble the sandwiches by spooning the pulled pork onto the buns, and topping with coleslaw
