Description

A popular North Indian dish made with chickpeas in a rich, spicy tomato-based sauce

Ingredients

  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 14 oz can chickpeas
  • 0.5 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 cup water
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 medium ginger
  • 1 tablespoon cumin
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 medium onions
  • 1 teaspoon coriander
  • 2 large tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato puree
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 0.5 teaspoon garam masala
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons cilantro

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Heat oil in a large pan over medium heat.
  2. Step 2: Add onions and cook until lightly browned, about 5-6 minutes.
  3. Step 3: Add garlic and ginger and cook for 1 minute.
  4. Step 4: Stir in cumin, coriander, cayenne pepper, garam masala, salt, and black pepper. Cook for 1 minute.
  5. Step 5: Add chickpeas, tomatoes, tomato puree, lemon juice, and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20-25 minutes.
  6. Step 6: Garnish with cilantro and serve over basmati rice or with naan bread.
