Description
A popular North Indian dish made with chickpeas in a rich, spicy tomato-based sauce
Ingredients
- 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 14 oz can chickpeas
- 0.5 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 cup water
- 0.5 teaspoon salt
- 1 medium ginger
- 1 tablespoon cumin
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 medium onions
- 1 teaspoon coriander
- 2 large tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons tomato puree
- 2 cloves garlic
- 0.5 teaspoon garam masala
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons cilantro
Instructions
- Step 1: Heat oil in a large pan over medium heat.
- Step 2: Add onions and cook until lightly browned, about 5-6 minutes.
- Step 3: Add garlic and ginger and cook for 1 minute.
- Step 4: Stir in cumin, coriander, cayenne pepper, garam masala, salt, and black pepper. Cook for 1 minute.
- Step 5: Add chickpeas, tomatoes, tomato puree, lemon juice, and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20-25 minutes.
- Step 6: Garnish with cilantro and serve over basmati rice or with naan bread.
