Description

Ingredients

  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 2 carrots
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 large onion
  • 2 stalks celery
  • 0.5 teaspoon basil
  • 0.25 cup shortening or butter
  • 0.75 cup water
  • 0.5 pounds chicken breast or thighs
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Step 1: In a large pot, sauté the onion, garlic, carrots, and celery in a little bit of oil until the vegetables are tender.
  2. Step 2: Add the chicken, chicken broth, thyme, basil, salt, and pepper to the pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through.
  3. Step 3: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and melted shortening or butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Step 4: Gradually add the warm water to the flour mixture, stirring with a fork until a shaggy dough forms.
  5. Step 5: Drop the dumpling dough by tablespoonfuls onto the surface of the simmering chicken and vegetables.
