Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup buttermilk
- vegetable oil
- 2 cups milk
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 cup flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 0.25 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1.5 lbs top round steak
- 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons paprika
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
Instructions
- Step 1: Pound the steak to 1/4 inch thickness
- Step 2: In a shallow dish, mix together flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper
- Step 3: Pour buttermilk into a separate shallow dish
- Step 4: Dredge the steak in the flour mixture, then dip in the buttermilk, and coat in the flour mixture again
- Step 5: Heat 1/2 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat
- Step 6: Fry the steak for 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through
- Step 7: Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside
- Step 8: Reduce heat to medium and add butter to the skillet
- Step 9: Once melted, sprinkle in 2 tablespoons of flour and whisk together to make a roux
- Step 10: Cook the roux for 1 minute
- Step 11: Slowly pour in beef broth and milk, whisking constantly
- Step 12: Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook until thickened, stirring occasionally
- Step 13: Serve the steak with the country gravy spooned over the top
