Ingredients
- 1 large onion
- 1 egg
- 0.25 teaspoon garlic powder
- 0.25 cup butter
- Vegetable oil
- 0.25 cup all-purpose flour
- 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
- 0.5 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 2 large potatoes
Instructions
- Step 1: Grate the potatoes and onion using the large holes of a box grater.
- Step 2: In a large bowl, combine grated potatoes, onion, flour, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Mix well.
- Step 3: Squeeze out as much moisture as possible from the potato mixture using a cheesecloth or a clean kitchen towel.
- Step 4: Add the melted butter and beaten egg to the potato mixture and mix until just combined.
- Step 5: Divide the mixture into 4 equal parts and shape each part into a patty.
- Step 6: Coat each patty in panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.
- Step 7: Heat about 1/2-inch (1 cm) of vegetable oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat.
- Step 8: When the oil is hot, add the patties and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Step 9: Remove the patties from the oil and drain on paper towels.
