Ingredients

  • 1 large onion
  • 1 egg
  • 0.25 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.25 cup butter
  • Vegetable oil
  • 0.25 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 large potatoes

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Grate the potatoes and onion using the large holes of a box grater.
  2. Step 2: In a large bowl, combine grated potatoes, onion, flour, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Mix well.
  3. Step 3: Squeeze out as much moisture as possible from the potato mixture using a cheesecloth or a clean kitchen towel.
  4. Step 4: Add the melted butter and beaten egg to the potato mixture and mix until just combined.
  5. Step 5: Divide the mixture into 4 equal parts and shape each part into a patty.
  6. Step 6: Coat each patty in panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.
  7. Step 7: Heat about 1/2-inch (1 cm) of vegetable oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat.
  8. Step 8: When the oil is hot, add the patties and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
