Description
Flaky pastry pockets filled with spiced potatoes and peas
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 0.25 teaspoon baking powder
- 2 cloves garlic
- 0.5 cup water
- 1 cup peas
- 2 large potatoes
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 0.25 cup ghee
- 0.5 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 onion
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon salt
- Salt
- 0.5 teaspoon turmeric
Instructions
- Step 1: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, and baking powder.
- Step 2: Add ghee or oil and mix until the dough comes together.
- Step 3: Gradually add lukewarm water and knead the dough for 5-7 minutes.
- Step 4: Cover the dough and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- Step 5: In a separate pan, heat oil over medium heat.
- Step 6: Add cumin, coriander, turmeric, and chili powder. Cook for 1 minute.
- Step 7: Add chopped onion and cook until translucent.
- Step 8: Add mashed potatoes, peas, salt, and lemon juice. Mix well.
- Step 9: Divide the dough into 8 equal portions.
- Step 10: Roll out each portion into a thin circle.
- Step 11: Place a tablespoon of the potato mixture in the center of each circle.
- Step 12: Fold the dough over the filling and press the edges to seal.
- Step 13: Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium-high heat.
- Step 14: Fry the samosas until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Step 15: Drain on paper towels and serve hot.
