Description

Classic British dish with flaky fish, crispy chips, and tangy tartar sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 pounds potatoes
  • 1 tablespoon chives
  • 0.5 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 cups panko breadcrumbs
  • 0.25 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 500 g Cod Fillets
  • 0.5 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon dill
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Prepare the tartar sauce by mixing all the sauce ingredients in a bowl and refrigerating for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Step 2: In a shallow dish, mix together the flour, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Step 3: Pour the melted butter into a separate shallow dish.
  4. Step 4: Dip each piece of fish into the butter, then coat in the flour mixture, shaking off excess.
  5. Step 5: Dip the floured fish into the beaten eggs, making sure they are fully coated.
  6. Step 6: Roll the egg-coated fish in the panko breadcrumbs, pressing the crumbs onto the fish to help them stick.
  7. Step 7: Heat about 1/2-inch of vegetable oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat.
  8. Step 8: Fry the coated fish pieces in batches until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  9. Step 9: Remove the fish from the oil and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  10. Step 10: Increase the oil temperature to 375°F (190°C).
  11. Step 11: Fry the potato sticks in batches until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per batch.
  12. Step 12: Remove the chips from the oil and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  13. Step 13: Serve the fish with the chips and a side of tartar sauce.
