Description

A classic sandwich filled with tender beef, melted cheese, and served with a side of savory au jus.

Ingredients

  • 1 bay leaf
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 teaspoon rosemary
  • 4 rolls hoagie
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 3 pounds beef prime rib roast
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 4 cups beef broth

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C).
  2. Step 2: Season the beef with thyme, rosemary, salt, and pepper.
  3. Step 3: In a large Dutch oven, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Sear the beef on all sides until browned, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  4. Step 4: Add the garlic, bay leaf, and beef broth to the pot. Cover and transfer to the preheated oven.
  5. Step 5: Roast the beef for 2 1/2 hours, or until tender and easily shredded with a fork.
  6. Step 6: Remove the pot from the oven and let the beef rest for 10 minutes before slicing thinly against the grain.
  7. Step 7: Split the hoagie rolls in half and toast until lightly browned.
  8. Step 8: Assemble the sandwiches by placing sliced beef onto the rolls, topping with Swiss cheese, and serving with a side of au jus for dipping.
