Description
Crispy fried bites filled with creamy macaroni and cheese
Ingredients
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
- 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
- 0.5 teaspoon salt
- 0.5 teaspoon paprika
- 2 cups cheddar cheese
- Vegetable oil
- 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
- 0.25 cup Parmesan cheese
- 8 oz macaroni
- 0.5 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 2 large eggs
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat oil in a deep frying pan to 350°F
- Step 2: Cook macaroni according to package directions, drain and set aside
- Step 3: In a saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat
- Step 4: Add flour and whisk together to make a roux, cooking for 1 minute
- Step 5: Slowly add 1 cup of milk, whisking constantly
- Step 6: Bring mixture to a simmer and cook until thickened, stirring occasionally
- Step 7: Remove from heat and stir in cheddar and mozzarella cheese until melted
- Step 8: Add cooked macaroni, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper to cheese sauce, stir until combined
- Step 9: In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs and buttermilk
- Step 10: Add panko breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese to egg mixture, stir until combined
- Step 11: Using a cookie scoop or spoon, drop mac and cheese mixture into breadcrumb mixture, coating completely
- Step 12: Carefully place coated mac and cheese balls into hot oil, frying for 3-4 minutes on each side, until golden brown
- Step 13: Remove from oil and place on paper towels to drain excess oil
