Description
A classic Greek street food wrapped in a warm pita with juicy lamb, crispy veggies, and tangy tzatziki sauce
Ingredients
- 1 cup lettuce
- 1 cup Greek yogurt
- 1 large tomato
- 1 tsp thyme
- 500 g lamb shoulder
- 1 large onion
- 1 large cucumber
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 4 large pita bread
- 0.25 tsp black pepper
- 1 cup feta cheese
- 1 tsp oregano
- 2 cloves garlic
- 0.5 tsp salt
Instructions
- Step 1: In a large bowl, whisk together olive oil, lemon juice, oregano, thyme, salt, and pepper
- Step 2: Add the sliced lamb and marinate for at least 30 minutes
- Step 3: Preheat a large skillet over medium-high heat and cook the lamb for 3-4 minutes per side, or until cooked through
- Step 4: Meanwhile, toast the pita bread by wrapping it in foil and heating it in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5 minutes
- Step 5: Assemble the gyro by spreading a layer of tzatziki sauce on each pita, followed by a few slices of lamb, some onion, tomato, cucumber, lettuce, and feta cheese
- Step 6: Serve immediately and enjoy!
