Description
Classic Middle Eastern dip served with crispy pita bread
Ingredients
- 1.5 cups flour
- 0.5 cups chickpeas
- 2 cloves garlic
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 0.25 cup water
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 0.25 cup lemon juice
- 0.25 cup tahini
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Step 2: In a blender or food processor, combine chickpeas, lemon juice, tahini, garlic, and salt. Blend until smooth.
- Step 3: With the blender or food processor running, slowly pour in olive oil and water. Continue blending until creamy.
- Step 4: In a large bowl, combine yeast, flour, salt, and sugar.
- Step 5: Gradually add warm water to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
- Step 6: Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Step 7: Divide the dough into 4-6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and flatten slightly into a disk shape.
- Step 8: Place the pita disks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until puffed and lightly browned.
- Step 9: Serve warm pita bread with hummus for dipping.
