Description
A twist on the classic corn dog, filled with creamy jalapeño popper filling
Ingredients
- 0.5 cup flour
- 2 large jalapeños
- 1 egg
- 0.5 cup cheddar cheese
- 1 cup buttermilk
- Vegetable oil
- 0.25 cup cilantro
- 1 cup cream cheese
- Wooden sticks
- 1 pound hot dogs
- 0.25 teaspoon baking powder
- 0.5 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup all-purpose cornmeal
- 0.25 teaspoon baking soda
- 0.25 cup scallions
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat the oil in a deep frying pan to 375°F (190°C).
- Step 2: In a large bowl, whisk together the cornmeal, flour, salt, baking soda, and baking powder.
- Step 3: In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and egg.
- Step 4: Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
- Step 5: In a separate bowl, mix together the cream cheese, cheddar cheese, cilantro, scallions, and chopped jalapeños.
- Step 6: Insert a wooden stick into each hot dog.
- Step 7: Dip each hot dog into the cornmeal mixture, coating completely, then dip into the cream cheese mixture, coating about 1 inch of the hot dog.
- Step 8: Dip the coated hot dog back into the cornmeal mixture, pressing the coating onto the hot dog to adhere.
- Step 9: Carefully place the coated hot dogs into the hot oil and fry for 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Step 10: Drain on paper towels and serve immediately.
