Description

A twist on the classic corn dog, filled with creamy jalapeño popper filling

Ingredients

  • 0.5 cup flour
  • 2 large jalapeños
  • 1 egg
  • 0.5 cup cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • Vegetable oil
  • 0.25 cup cilantro
  • 1 cup cream cheese
  • Wooden sticks
  • 1 pound hot dogs
  • 0.25 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose cornmeal
  • 0.25 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.25 cup scallions

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Preheat the oil in a deep frying pan to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Step 2: In a large bowl, whisk together the cornmeal, flour, salt, baking soda, and baking powder.
  3. Step 3: In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and egg.
  4. Step 4: Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  5. Step 5: In a separate bowl, mix together the cream cheese, cheddar cheese, cilantro, scallions, and chopped jalapeños.
  6. Step 6: Insert a wooden stick into each hot dog.
  7. Step 7: Dip each hot dog into the cornmeal mixture, coating completely, then dip into the cream cheese mixture, coating about 1 inch of the hot dog.
  8. Step 8: Dip the coated hot dog back into the cornmeal mixture, pressing the coating onto the hot dog to adhere.
  9. Step 9: Carefully place the coated hot dogs into the hot oil and fry for 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown.
  10. Step 10: Drain on paper towels and serve immediately.
