Description
A classic comfort food dish made with macaroni pasta, a creamy cheese sauce, and a crispy breadcrumb topping
Ingredients
- 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
- 0.5 teaspoon salt
- 8 oz macaroni
- 0.25 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 2 cups cheddar cheese
- 2 cups milk
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese
- 2 tablespoons butter
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C)
- Step 2: Cook macaroni according to package instructions until al dente, drain and set aside
- Step 3: In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat
- Step 4: Add flour and whisk to make a roux, cooking for 1 minute
- Step 5: Slowly add milk, whisking constantly to avoid lumps
- Step 6: Bring mixture to a simmer and cook until thickened, stirring occasionally
- Step 7: Remove from heat and stir in cheddar and mozzarella cheese until melted and smooth
- Step 8: Add cooked macaroni to cheese sauce and stir until coated
- Step 9: Transfer macaroni and cheese to a baking dish and top with breadcrumbs
- Step 10: Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until top is golden brown and macaroni and cheese is heated through
