Description
Rich and creamy Indian dish with marinated meatballs in a smooth tomato sauce
Ingredients
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 500 g lamb or beef mince
- 1 large onion
- 1 tablespoon ginger paste
- 2 large tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 0.25 teaspoon salt
- 0.5 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 2 tablespoons tomato puree
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 cloves garlic
- 0.5 teaspoon garam masala powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
- cilantro
- 2 eggs
- 0.5 teaspoon red chili powder
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, combine the lamb or beef mince, onion, garlic, ginger paste, lemon juice, cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
- Step 3: Add the flour, butter, eggs, milk, and heavy cream to the bowl. Mix until just combined.
- Step 4: Use your hands to shape the mixture into small balls, about 1 1/2 inches (3.8 cm) in diameter. You should end up with around 20-25 koftas.
- Step 5: Place the koftas on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving a little space between each kofta to allow for even cooking.
- Step 6: Bake the koftas in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until they are cooked through and lightly browned on the outside.
- Step 7: While the koftas are baking, melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add the diced tomatoes, tomato puree, and 1/4 cup of water to the saucepan. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
- Step 8: Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it has thickened slightly.
- Step 9: Once the koftas are done, remove them from the oven and carefully place them in the saucepan with the tomato sauce.
- Step 10: Simmer the koftas in the sauce for 5-7 minutes, or until they are fully coated in the sauce.
- Step 11: Serve the Malai Kofta hot, garnished with fresh cilantro and accompanied by basmati rice or naan bread.
