Description

Classic Italian dish with homemade meatballs and marinara sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • Salt and pepper
  • 0.5 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 onion
  • 500 g minced beef
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 tsp basil
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 500 g spaghetti

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, combine minced beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix well with your hands until just combined.
  3. Step 3: Use your hands to shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1 1/2 inches (3.8 cm) in diameter. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Step 4: Drizzle the meatballs with a little bit of olive oil and gently roll them around to coat evenly.
  5. Step 5: Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until cooked through.
  6. Step 6: While the meatballs are baking, heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
  7. Step 7: Add the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper to the saucepan. Stir well to combine.
  8. Step 8: Bring the sauce to a simmer and let cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened slightly.
  9. Step 9: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the spaghetti according to the package instructions until al dente.
  10. Step 10: Reserve 1 cup of pasta water before draining the spaghetti.
  11. Step 11: Add the cooked spaghetti to the saucepan with the marinara sauce. Toss the spaghetti in the sauce, adding some reserved pasta water if the sauce seems too thick.
  12. Step 12: To serve, place the spaghetti on a plate, top with meatballs, and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
