Description

Sweet and tangy BBQ baked beans with a hint of molasses

Ingredients

  • 1 pound navy beans
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 pound smoked bacon
  • 1 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 0.25 cup BBQ sauce
  • 2 medium onions
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 0.5 cup molasses
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Preheat oven to 275°F.
  2. Step 2: Rinse navy beans and pick out any debris or stones.
  3. Step 3: In a large Dutch oven, cook bacon over medium heat until crispy.
  4. Step 4: Remove bacon from pot, leaving drippings behind.
  5. Step 5: Add onions to pot and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  6. Step 6: Add garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  7. Step 7: Add navy beans, ketchup, molasses, brown sugar, mustard, cumin, salt, and pepper to pot.
  8. Step 8: Stir in BBQ sauce and cooked bacon.
  9. Step 9: Cover pot and transfer to preheated oven.
  10. Step 10: Bake for 6 hours, or until beans are tender.
