Description

Traditional Indian flatbread made with yogurt and baked in the oven.

Ingredients

  • 0.25 teaspoon sugar
  • 0.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 cup yogurt
  • 0.5 teaspoon yeast
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 0.5 cup water

Instructions

  1. Step 1: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, sugar, and yeast.
  2. Step 2: Gradually add lukewarm water and mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Step 3: Add yogurt and mix until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. Step 4: Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until it becomes soft and pliable.
  5. Step 5: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
  6. Step 6: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  7. Step 7: Punch down the dough and divide it into 6-8 equal portions.
  8. Step 8: Roll out each portion into a ball and then flatten it slightly into an oval shape.
  9. Step 9: Place the naan breads on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving about 1 inch of space between each bread.
  10. Step 10: Brush the tops with vegetable oil and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the breads are golden brown and puffed up.
