Description

Crispy fried chicken tossed in a spicy Nashville-style hot oil blend, served with a side of local flair

Ingredients

  • 0.25 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 0.5 cup Nashville hot oil blend
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • Vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 lbs chicken pieces
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Step 1: In a large bowl, combine the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper
  2. Step 2: Pour the buttermilk into a separate large bowl
  3. Step 3: Dredge the chicken pieces in the flour mixture, shaking off excess
  4. Step 4: Dip the floured chicken pieces in the buttermilk, making sure they are fully submerged
  5. Step 5: Dredge the chicken pieces in the flour mixture again, pressing the coating onto the chicken to adhere
  6. Step 6: Heat about 1/2-inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F
  7. Step 7: Carefully place 3-4 pieces of the coated chicken into the hot oil
  8. Step 8: Fry the chicken for 8-10 minutes, or until it reaches a golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 165°F
  9. Step 9: Repeat the frying process with the remaining chicken pieces
  10. Step 10: In a large bowl, combine the Nashville hot oil blend (or substitute)
  11. Step 11: Add the fried chicken pieces to the bowl and toss to coat with the hot oil blend
