Triangular-shaped Japanese rice balls filled with salmon and pickled plum

Ingredients

  • 6 pickled plum
  • Nori
  • 0.25 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 cup Japanese short-grain rice
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 6 slices smoked salmon
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup water

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Rinse the rice thoroughly and cook according to the package instructions with 1/2 cup water and 1/4 teaspoon salt
  2. Step 2: Allow the rice to cool down to room temperature
  3. Step 3: Mix the rice vinegar and sugar in a small bowl and stir until the sugar is dissolved
  4. Step 4: Pour the vinegar mixture over the cooled rice and mix well
  5. Step 5: Cut the smoked salmon into small pieces
  6. Step 6: Cut the pickled plum into small pieces
  7. Step 7: Prepare a small bowl of water
  8. Step 8: Wet your hands with water and take a small handful of rice
  9. Step 9: Shape the rice into a triangle and make a small indentation in the middle
  10. Step 10: Place a piece of salmon and a piece of pickled plum in the indentation
  11. Step 11: Fold the two sides of the triangle over the filling and press the edges together to seal the onigiri
  12. Step 12: Repeat with the remaining ingredients
  13. Step 13: Wrap each onigiri with nori sheet
