Description

A classic American sandwich featuring a juicy beef patty, melted Swiss cheese, and caramelized onions on toasted rye bread

Ingredients

  • 1 large Onion
  • 2 tbsp All-purpose Flour
  • 0.5 tsp Black Pepper
  • 2 tsp Paprika
  • 8 oz Ground Beef
  • 4 slices Swiss Cheese
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 2 tbsp Unsalted Butter
  • 4 slices Rye Bread

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Preheat a griddle or skillet to medium-high heat
  2. Step 2: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined
  3. Step 3: Form into 4 patties, about 3/4 inch (2cm) thick
  4. Step 4: Add butter to the preheated griddle and cook for 1-2 minutes, until melted
  5. Step 5: Add patties and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, until cooked to desired doneness
  6. Step 6: While the patties are cooking, toast the rye bread on the griddle
  7. Step 7: On the toasted bread, layer a cooked patty, a slice of Swiss cheese, and a spoonful of caramelized onions (see note)
  8. Step 8: Top with another slice of toasted bread
  9. Step 9: Serve immediately and enjoy!
