Description

Spicy penne pasta dish with a kick of red pepper flakes

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp (5g) basil
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 12 oz penne pasta
  • 1 tsp dried red pepper flakes
  • 0.25 cup Parmesan cheese
  • 1 can crushed tomatoes

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the penne pasta according to package instructions until al dente.
  2. Step 2: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  3. Step 3: Add the minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Step 4: Add the crushed tomatoes, dried red pepper flakes, and dried basil. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  5. Step 5: Simmer the sauce for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened slightly.
  6. Step 6: Reserve 1 cup of pasta water before draining the penne pasta.
  7. Step 7: Add the cooked penne pasta to the skillet with the sauce and toss to combine, adding some reserved pasta water if the sauce seems too thick.
  8. Step 8: Remove from heat and stir in the grated Parmesan cheese.
