Description

Traditional Polish dish of cabbage leaves stuffed with ground meat and rice

Ingredients

  • 1 head cabbage
  • 1 cup white rice
  • 1 teaspoon caraway seeds
  • 0.5 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 onion
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon paprika

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Bring a large pot of water to a boil and blanch the cabbage leaves for 5 minutes
  2. Step 2: Remove the cabbage leaves from the water and let them cool
  3. Step 3: In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, cooked rice, caraway seeds, salt, black pepper, and paprika
  4. Step 4: Mix the ingredients together until just combined
  5. Step 5: Lay a cabbage leaf flat and place a tablespoon of the meat mixture in the center of the leaf
  6. Step 6: Fold the stem end of the leaf over the filling, then fold in the sides and roll the leaf into a snug package
  7. Step 7: Repeat with the remaining cabbage leaves and filling
  8. Step 8: Place the cabbage rolls seam-side down in a large skillet and add enough water to cover them
  9. Step 9: Bring the water to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 25 minutes
