Description
Traditional Polish dish of cabbage leaves stuffed with ground meat and rice
Ingredients
- 1 head cabbage
- 1 cup white rice
- 1 teaspoon caraway seeds
- 0.5 pound ground beef
- 1 pound ground pork
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 onion
- 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
- 0.25 teaspoon paprika
Instructions
- Step 1: Bring a large pot of water to a boil and blanch the cabbage leaves for 5 minutes
- Step 2: Remove the cabbage leaves from the water and let them cool
- Step 3: In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, cooked rice, caraway seeds, salt, black pepper, and paprika
- Step 4: Mix the ingredients together until just combined
- Step 5: Lay a cabbage leaf flat and place a tablespoon of the meat mixture in the center of the leaf
- Step 6: Fold the stem end of the leaf over the filling, then fold in the sides and roll the leaf into a snug package
- Step 7: Repeat with the remaining cabbage leaves and filling
- Step 8: Place the cabbage rolls seam-side down in a large skillet and add enough water to cover them
- Step 9: Bring the water to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 25 minutes
