Description
A classic Italian pasta dish with a rich meat sauce
Ingredients
- 1 can whole peeled tomatoes
- Salt and black pepper
- 1 medium onion
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 carrot
- Parmesan cheese
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 stalk celery
- 500 g rigatoni
- 1 teaspoon basil
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 500 g ground beef
Instructions
- Step 1: Cook the rigatoni in boiling, salted water until al dente, then reserve 1 cup of pasta water and drain.
- Step 2: In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
- Step 3: Add the chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Step 4: Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.
- Step 5: Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.
- Step 6: Add the chopped carrot and celery and cook until the vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.
- Step 7: Add the canned tomatoes, dried basil, and dried oregano. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
- Step 8: Simmer the sauce over low heat, stirring occasionally, for 20-30 minutes, adding some reserved pasta water if the sauce becomes too thick.
- Step 9: Add the cooked rigatoni to the sauce and toss to combine.
- Step 10: Serve the rigatoni hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese.
