Description

A classic sandwich featuring slow-roasted beef, crispy onions, and melted cheddar cheese

Ingredients

  • 1 cup caramelized onions
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese
  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 4 leaves lettuce
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 3 lbs beef prime rib roast
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • 2 slices tomato

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C)
  2. Step 2: Season the beef roast with thyme, garlic powder, salt, and pepper
  3. Step 3: Heat the olive oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Sear the beef roast until browned on all sides
  4. Step 4: Transfer the Dutch oven to the preheated oven and roast the beef for 2 1/2 hours, or until medium-rare
  5. Step 5: While the beef is roasting, caramelize the onions in a saucepan over medium-low heat for 30 minutes
  6. Step 6: Slice the beef roast into thin strips
  7. Step 7: Assemble the sandwiches by spreading Dijon mustard on the hoagie rolls, then topping with sliced beef, caramelized onions, shredded cheese, lettuce, and tomato
  8. Step 8: Place the sandwiches under the broiler for 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly
