Description
Flaky, buttery biscuits filled with spicy sausage and melted cheese
Ingredients
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 0.75 cup heavy cream
- 1 egg
- 0.5 cup sausage
- 0.5 cup cheddar cheese
- 2 cups flour
- 0.5 cup butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Step 2: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Step 3: Add cold butter to dry ingredients and use a pastry blender or fingers to work into a crumbly mixture.
- Step 4: Add heavy cream and stir until dough comes together in a shaggy mass.
- Step 5: Turn dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead a few times until it comes together.
- Step 6: Roll dough out to a thickness of about 1 inch (2.5 cm).
- Step 7: Cut out rounds of dough using a biscuit cutter or the rim of a glass.
- Step 8: Place a spoonful of cooked sausage in the center of each dough round.
- Step 9: Top sausage with a sprinkle of shredded cheese.
- Step 10: Fold dough over filling and press edges together to seal.
- Step 11: Brush tops of biscuits with beaten egg for a golden glaze.
- Step 12: Place biscuits on prepared baking sheet and bake for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
