Description
A classic American sandwich filling made with ground beef, tomatoes, and spices
Ingredients
- 1 medium onion
- 1 tsp cumin
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 0.5 cup water
- 2 cloves garlic
- cheddar cheese
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 cup ketchup
- 4 hamburger buns
- 0.25 tsp black pepper
- 0.5 tsp salt
Instructions
- Step 1: Cook the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks, until browned, about 5-7 minutes
- Step 2: Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet and cook until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes
- Step 3: Stir in the ketchup, water, brown sugar, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper
- Step 4: Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened, about 10-15 minutes
- Step 5: Split the hamburger buns in half and toast until lightly browned
- Step 6: Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto the buns and top with shredded cheddar cheese
