- 1 stalk celery
- 1 pound smoked ham hock
- 1 medium onion

- 1 pound split peas
- 3 cloves garlic

- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 bay leaf
- 4 cups chicken broth
- 1 teaspoon thyme
- 1 medium carrot
Instructions
- Step 1: In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
- Step 2: Add the chopped onion, garlic, carrot, and celery, and cook until the vegetables are tender, about 8 minutes.
- Step 3: Add the split peas, smoked ham hock, cumin, thyme, bay leaf, salt, and pepper.
