Crispy fried chicken marinated in buttermilk and spices

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs chicken pieces
  • 0.25 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • Vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce

Instructions

  1. Step 1: In a large bowl, whisk together buttermilk, hot sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
  2. Step 2: Add the chicken pieces to the marinade and mix well to coat. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  3. Step 3: Preheat the oil in a deep frying pan or a deep fryer to 350°F.
  4. Step 4: In a separate bowl, mix together the flour.
  5. Step 5: Remove the chicken from the marinade, allowing any excess to drip off. Dredge the chicken pieces in the flour, shaking off excess.
  6. Step 6: Carefully place the coated chicken pieces in the hot oil. Do not overcrowd.
  7. Step 7: Fry for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  8. Step 8: Remove the chicken from the oil with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
