Description

A classic Chinese-inspired dish with a tangy and sweet sauce, crispy pork, and crunchy vegetables.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 lb pork shoulder
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 cup vinegar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 large bell peppers
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Step 1: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, eggs, and panko breadcrumbs.
  2. Step 2: Add pork pieces to the bowl and toss to coat.
  3. Step 3: Heat 1 tbsp of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook pork until browned and crispy, about 5-6 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
  4. Step 4: In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tbsp of vegetable oil. Cook onion and bell peppers until tender, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  5. Step 5: In a small bowl, whisk together sugar, ketchup, vinegar, and cornstarch. Pour the sauce into the skillet and bring to a boil.
  6. Step 6: Return pork to the skillet and toss to coat with the sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  7. Step 7: Serve hot and enjoy!
