Description
A comforting casserole made with crispy tater tots, ground beef, and a rich cheese sauce
Ingredients
- 1 medium onion
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 cup milk
- 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup frozen peas and carrots
- 0.25 tsp paprika
- 0.5 cup Monterey Jack cheese
- 1 32 oz tater tots
- 2 cups cheddar cheese
- 0.5 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp salt
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C)
- Step 2: Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat until fully cooked, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks
- Step 3: Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet and cook until the onion is translucent
- Step 4: Stir in the frozen peas and carrots and cook until thawed
- Step 5: In a separate saucepan, whisk together the milk, flour, salt, black pepper, and paprika
- Step 6: Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat and cook until thickened, stirring constantly
- Step 7: Remove the sauce from the heat and stir in the shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese until melted and smooth
- Step 8: Spread half of the tater tots in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish
- Step 9: Pour the cheese sauce over the tater tots, followed by the ground beef mixture
- Step 10: Top with the remaining tater tots
- Step 11: Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and the casserole is hot and bubbly
