Description
A classic Greek street food featuring tender lamb, refreshing tzatziki sauce, and crispy pita bread
Ingredients
- 0.5 cup (120ml) extra-virgin olive oil
- 4 pita bread
- 1 cup Greek yogurt
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 large cucumber
- dill
- Salt and pepper
- 500 g lamb shoulder
- 1 tablespoon oregano
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat a grill or grill pan to medium-high heat.
- Step 2: In a large bowl, whisk together olive oil, garlic, oregano, paprika, salt, and pepper. Add the lamb slices and marinate for at least 30 minutes.
- Step 3: Grill the lamb for 4-5 minutes per side, or until cooked through. Transfer to a cutting board and let rest for 5 minutes.
- Step 4: Meanwhile, prepare the tzatziki sauce. In a bowl, combine cucumber, yogurt, garlic, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
- Step 5: Warm the pita bread by wrapping it in foil and heating it in the oven for 5 minutes.
- Step 6: Assemble the gyro by slicing the lamb into thin strips and placing it onto the pita bread. Top with tzatziki sauce, and garnish with chopped fresh dill.
- Step 7: Serve immediately and enjoy!
