Vietnamese Bánh Mì with Grilled Pork

Description

A classic Vietnamese sandwich filled with grilled pork, pickled vegetables, and herbs, served on a crispy baguette.

Ingredients

  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 large carrot
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 4 Banh Mi baguettes
  • 0.25 cup cilantro
  • 1 large cucumber
  • 0.25 cup fish sauce
  • 1 pound pork shoulder
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons pickled daikon radish
  • Salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons sriracha sauce

Instructions

  1. Step 1: In a large bowl, whisk together fish sauce, lime juice, garlic, brown sugar, and black pepper.
  2. Step 2: Add the sliced pork to the marinade and mix well. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  3. Step 3: Preheat a grill or grill pan to medium-high heat. Remove the pork from the marinade and cook for 5-7 minutes per side, or until cooked through.
  4. Step 4: Meanwhile, toast the baguettes by grilling or baking at 375°F (190°C) for 5 minutes.
  5. Step 5: Assemble the sandwiches by spreading mayonnaise on the bottom half of the baguette, followed by a few slices of grilled pork, pickled daikon radish, carrot, cucumber, cilantro, and sriracha sauce.
  6. Step 6: Top with the top half of the baguette and serve immediately.
